Avalonia - Heartfelt motions
1 november 2024
Avalonia was formed as a trio by brothers Jayden and Seth Beyrooti, and their good friend Ramon Bautista in 2011. Jay lays down the rhythm section with piano, guitars and bass, reinforced by Seth’s tight playing on the drums, and topped off with Ramon’s soulful tenor sax. While they enjoyed playing gigs, they especially loved recording original music. “Heartfelt Motions”, an all-original jazz themed album, incorporates several styles such as swing, smooth jazz, pop/rock, soul, Brazilian and classical music. Produced by Jayden and Craig Beyrooti, the album has a unique sound and conveys a beautiful message through its ten songs. Sadly, Seth died in 2018 after being hit by a distracted driver while stopped in traffic. Jayden and Ramon greatly miss playing music with Seth but continue their passion of recording new songs in his honor and implore others to not drive distracted. All tracks are written by Jayden. This album along with all Avalonia records is dedicated to Seth.
The opening song “Traction Control” features Seth’s great drum skills and Ramon’s energetic sax while Jayden holds down the rhythm parts. This seven minute smooth jazz instrumental was recorded by the trio in one take. The next three tracks all have a pop feel and feature vocals by friend and regular collaborator Andrés Ocampo. The title track is heavily influenced by Brazilian music. Originally performed as an instrumental, lyrics were later written by The Righteous Bureau team of Jayden and Peter Beyrooti and the song rearranged as a duet. The album then enters an instrumental suite blending classical and jazz with all tracks lead by Ramon’s tenor sax and Jay’s piano. The record concludes with the soulful “See You Again Sometime”, a hopeful yet bittersweet song for those we have lost.
